Story sampling is a different way of sampling. It’s a way of getting in touch with the artistic aura and the historical, cultural and social context of the sound, the musical elements and the musicians.”

We are planning to develop an easy to use music software module (based on Kontakt by Native Instruments, Berlin) which is populated with audio samples of rare instruments, field recordings and archive material.

Our idea of sampling incorporates the history, the traditions, the musicians and the cultural context of the audio material.

The software will not try to perfectly emulate a specific instrument, instead we hope to inspire music lovers and musicians to explore unusual and maybe even long forgotten sounds in a playful way.

We will publish the software under an appropriate creative commons license that will allow free access for users all over the world. For commercial use we will offer a professional license.

The interactive DFM-STORY SAMPLER will enrich our audio archive with an interactive component. The software and the musical pieces can become part of a collective cultural exchange and contribute to a participatory, digital version of „folk music“.
