Siglufjörður Folk Musik Festival

The Folk Music Festival is a five-day event in Northern Iceland which starts annually on the first Wednesday in July.

The focus of the festival are Icelandic and Scandinavian folk music as well as world music and folk dances. 15-20 concerts are presented at different venues in the city. Pubs, the church and the Herring Era Museum will be used. During the festival there are workshops on music and old crafts as well as lectures on Icelandic and foreign topics.
The Folk Music Centre in Siglufjörður, in cooperation with the University of Iceland, is organising a folk music academy during the festival on the different types of Icelandic traditional music and folk music – including rímur, tvísöngur, children’s rhymes and psalms. Icelandic folk dances are also presented, as well as traditional instruments.
The artistic director of the festival since 2000 has been Gunnsteinn Olafsson.
